Notes
Serving as a prototype for China Cabinet (no. 803), this unsigned drawing speaks to the subtle refinement inherent in the design process at Stickley’s factory. The leaded glass, which would have undoubtedly added additional cost, was replaced with a single sheet. The pronounced swelling in the sides is replaced by straighter wood that reduced waste and needed less labor. The proportions were altered as well, and the final case is wider and sturdier looking as a result. Lastly, the shaped and somewhat fussy escutcheon was replaced on the production version by a simpler model.
