This form was also produced in maple as an inlaid version. For an example ca. 1909 or earlier, see: Brunk Auctions, 18th & 19th c. Antiques & Decorative Arts, March 12, 2006, lot 895. It was listed as a “writing desk” in the catalog and the inlay is confined to the drawer fronts around the knobs, which seems to have been an option available as it appears on a number of pieces.
