Notes
The Chalet Desk underwent subtle refinements that help differentiate the earliest models from the later productions. Sometime in 1901, the shaped cut outs at the top of the desk were eliminated, as evident in the photograph of the desk that appeared in the November 1901 issue of The Craftsman. The elimination of the cutouts is also evident when the desk is open, as the rack for papers in the later models features a solid board. One final distinction can be seen in the manner in which the back of the desk and the sides meet at the top. In the version with cutouts, the sides rise higher than the back. By contrast, later models have both sides that are flush with the backboard, and those that are more reminiscent of the initial version of the desk. The later models tend to have a beveled foot that lacks the curved details of the version listed in the New Furniture catalog. The beveled foot had replaced the complicated curve by November 1901 when the model appeared in The Craftsman.
These came with a rectangular willow basket that fit in the lower shelf.
