Because of the vertical armrests, some have attempted to link this form to the Thornden Rocker and have called it a Thornden Settle or settee despite no evidence of that name being used in the period. In fact, the name Thornden Rocker is a result of an illustration in The Craftsman and refers specifically to that item only. While there are examples of forms with vertically-oriented rails and armrests, I have not seen any evidence that Stickley used the Thornden designation for them.
