A painted version of this model appeared in “More Color in the Home: Painted Furniture Inspired by Peasant Art,” The Craftsman 28 (June 1915): 248. The setting of the photographs as well as the captions suggest that “Craftsman Painted Furniture” was offered by Stickley’s company, but whether this venture never materialized or was relatively short-lived in not known. Aside from the five pieces photographed for this article, nothing else has come to light. The caption for the photographs mentioned: “the ground being a brilliant black glaze, the painted designs in brick-red, blue and green” with the motif taken from the upholstery on the no. 324 chair also illustrated. The rush seat on this example was orange.
